Protecting a Grade I Terracotta Door Surround
Our brief from the Magistrates Court was to construct new mahogany screens that would fit within the Grade I-listed terracotta surrounds. The listed status of the surround meant that complete care had to be taken in order to prevent any damage to the terracotta.
We provided the client with working drawings to demonstrate how we proposed to minimise the risk of damaging the surrounds during the fixing of the new screens without compromising the finished appearance and detail.
After fixing, the screens were glazed and finished to match other woodwork within the space.

Reproducing an Original Porch in a Grade II Cottage
The owners of this Grade II listed cottage wanted to create a porch that matched one featured on the front of the building when it was built. The only reference to this original porch was an old photograph, which was used by the architect to sketch the elevation detail.
We then produced the working drawings, detailing the deep bracketed, cantilevered canopy with an extremely complex clam-shell focal point, and egg and dart detail around the edge.
The entire porch was created in individual units and fixed in place by our craftsmen, who also oversaw the installation of the leaded windows.

Highcliffe Castle Oak Roof Trusses
We were commissioned to replace a number of large hammer beam oak trusses for Highcliffe Castle in Dorset.
We used sections of air-dried oak ensuring the moisture content was at the correct level to minimise the amount of movement during machining and assembly.
Architect’s drawings showing the roof plans and details were needed to manufacture the new trusses. Dimensions were taken from the building and existing truss members that had collapsed during the winter storms.
