Carving
Linford Joinery has an expert team of carvers who can design and deliver outstanding feature pieces, most often in wood but also in stone if required.
Our studio supports our joiners and carpenters as part of wider restoration projects. They also create exquisite individual commissions, using traditional methods that have changed little over the centuries.
For example, we use Marquette's or plaster casts to provide us with basic profiles, size and scale. and traditional pointing tool's to keep the proportions accurate as the carvers work. A complex carving can take six to eight weeks to create.
We can repair or replace existing features, as well as carve new figures or pieces of architectural woodwork from photographs
and sketches - either following our own research or from designs we have worked up in-house.
We can also restore gilded wooden pieces along with historic hand-painted items, such as heraldic shields. And we are able to create intricate low-relief carvings with beautiful patterns and images in brass/resin, which are suitable for use on cornices, dado, picture rails, and plaques.
